Founded in 1790, General Stanton Inn is one of the 23 oldest remaining hotels in the United States. It belonged to the Stanton family from 1665 to 1900 and has six owners. The Stanton family comprises members of the military, three generals - one was a Revolutionary War brigadier general, an associate delegate to the 1st Continental Congress, and in 1803 was a senator from Rhode Island. The hotel has been maintained in its original building, with additional facilities. In the 1920s, it was a place of gambling. Today's guests can enjoy being part of history.
